Inspired by a bronze statue commemorating a popular children's song Red Shoes that sings of a Japanese girl wearing red shoes who was given away to benefactors in America, 93-year-old Zen monk Henry Mittwer, who himself was torn from his Japanese mother when World War II broke out and later spent time in various U.S. Nikkei camps, is determined to make a semiautobiographical movie on his own. Director Nakamura intends to realize the unfinished dream of this unconventional American dad-turned-Zen monk while recounting the latter's extraordinary life and his lifelong passion for movies.
